Embark at Tysons Corner, VA

Embark at Tysons Corner — located in Tysons Corner, Virginia, offers outpatient behavioral health services and support for teens and young adults, ages 14-24, struggling with mental health and/or substance use issues.

Anxiety, depression and suicide are on the rise in the United States, and our youth are at risk more today than ever before. Too many teens and young adults are currently suffering from anxiety, depression, feelings of worthlessness, intense social pressure, loneliness, shame and trauma. It doesn’t have to be this way, and Embark at Tysons Corner can help you and your family.

Our outpatient program allows families to get the help they need in their own community and includes individual, group and family therapy, as well as parent coaching, and peer and therapeutic mentoring. We provide healing in a nurturing and safe environment to help families address and overcome the following mental health issues that may be impacting their everyday lives:

  • Anxiety
  • Mood Regulation
  • Family Conflict

Mental Health & Substance Use Treatment Provided at Tysons Corner

When a more intensive program than basic outpatient therapy is needed, or if your child is in need of a ‘step-down’ program once they have completed an inpatient residential program, our clinic is here to help. We provide two in-clinic treatment options, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), sometimes referred to as a “day hospital” program, meeting a minimum of 20 hours a week, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP), meeting a minimum of 12 hours a week. These programs offer your child the opportunity to live at home when they are not receiving treatment so they can continue to attend school or work.

Also, in order to truly be adaptive in supporting our clients, remove any access to care barriers, and provide additional flexibility to help us meet our clients’ unique needs, we are offering TeleHealth Services, a virtual IOP program, as an alternative to our in-person programming.

Our virtual IOP program connects you to our state-of-the-art clinic directly through our secure video platform. This is a more convenient and accessible way to receive our high quality care for when attending in person is not an option. Our virtual IOP program can provide more frequent sessions to help meet the needs of your child, with options of attending 4-6 days a week.

At our outpatient programs, we utilize several different modes of treatment including the following...

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

We use Dialectical Behavior Therapy to identify and change thinking patterns and unhealthy behaviors that negatively affect quality of life, teaching teens and young adults how to develop new skills to effectively cope with stress, manage emotions, decrease conflict, improve relationships with others, focus on the present and live in the moment. We then help them practice these skills so they can apply what they have learned at home, at school, at work, and in the community, and achieve their goals, improve upon their well-being, and effect lasting positive change.

SMART Recovery

There are a variety of approaches to treating children struggling with addictions. Of all the options available, we are most impressed with and utilize SMART Recovery. SMART stands for Self-Management And Recovery Training and this approach has been shown, through ongoing scientific research and continual clinical refinement, to be highly effective.

By combining a blend of cognitive behavior therapy, which helps change negative thought patterns to positive ones, emotional coping strategies and group and family support, SMART Recovery teaches children how to control their addictive behavior, by focusing on their underlying thoughts and feelings, and provides them with the skills they need to manage their cravings and urges for the long term.

Experiential Therapy

As its name indicates, experiential therapy involves actions, movements, and activities rather than the more traditional “talk therapy.” It is at the core of Potomac Programs’ therapeutic approach and involves group activities, outings, and in the moment interventions. The goal of this approach is to focus on actual involvement with different types of experiences, including emotional processing, interactions with others, creativity, and reflections of events that go beyond traditional “talk therapy.” This helps to speed up the therapeutic process, promoting change in the shorter period of time and allowing the individual to develop insight and realization into the nature of their inner thoughts, feelings, experiences, needs, and proactive methods to address these.
